Koh Tao (Turtle Island) In, Thailand

Koh Tao is a famous isle in Thailand which also refers to the the “Turtle Island”. The isle covers the area of about 21kilometrers sq. It is a beautiful place to visit with family or friends. It we see the stats from the previous years the population of the place is increasing. The 2006 population stats showed that the total population was 1382.

Koh Tao makes a tambon(means a Govt stations in Thailand). The most density populated area in the island is Ban Mae Hat. The island is a beautiful place indeed and the economy of the place is dependent upon the isle resources and mostly it comes from the tourism. The specialty of the isle is Scuba diving which fascinates its visitors the most and people love to dive. Several diving areas have been assigned there also.

Have you ever thought why it is called the turtle isle , it is because of the geographical shape of the isle is just like a turtle since that day it is called the turtle isle . But there are a lot of turtles who breeds in the island, it is not because of the name obliviously but it is merely a coincidence, mostly the island breeds the turtles of Hawksbill turtles and Green turtles.

The increasing tourism in the area has affected the wild life and the natural beauty of the isle ; many organizations are working to preserve it.

The tourism development authorities impact the environment negatively but it has to be preserved in its initial and natural state other wise its beauty will be lost.

The turtle breeding was first started in the isle in 2004 by a organization called, Royal Navy. As the main economy of the island revolves around the Scuba industry many scuba institutes and centres have been formed in the area to promote the scuba industry more. They have allied together to form these juvenile turtles to the isle .
